STUDENT IV INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE

 

On May 27, 2020, the Student IV International Scientific - Online Conference of the Batumi Navigation Teaching University was held.

In total 20 universities were participating  in the conference, including 11 foreign and 9 Georgian higher education institutions from 8 countries.

The reports were presented by the students from Poland (International University of Logistics and Transport in Wroclaw, Maritime University of Szczecin), Romania (Constanta Maritime University, ,,Mircea cel Batran" Naval Academy), Montenegro (University of Montenegro), South Africa (Stellenbosch University), Bulgaria  (Technical University of Varna), Ukraine  (Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding National University “Odessa Maritime Academy”), Turkey  (Ondokuz Mayis University) and Lithuania  (University of Klaipeda).

Students represented Georgia at the conference from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University; Georgian Technical University; David Aghmashenebeli University of Georgia; Georgian National University – SEU; Batumi Navigation Teaching University; Batumi High Maritime Engineering School ANRI; Akaki Tsereteli State University; Iakob Gogebashvili – Telavi State University

The International Scientific Board participated in the opening ceremony of the conference, which included Rector of Batumi Navigation Teaching University, Professor Parmen Khvedelidze, Rector of International University of Transport and Logistics in Wroclaw Marcin PAWESKA, Dean of the Faculty of Maritime Technology and Natural Sciences; University of Klaipeda Assoc. Prof. RIMA MICKEVICIENE; Dean of Faculty of Maritime Studies; University of Montenegro Assoc. Prof. SPIRO IVOSEVIC;

Two English-language and one Georgian-language sessions were held at the conference. During the 6-hour online forum, 54 reports were heard, each of which was distinguished by the depth of the slogan, the effectiveness of the submission, and the original vision.

   
  Batumi Navigation Teaching University Is A Member Of IAMU (International Association Of Maritime Universities) 
 

IAMU - International Association of Maritime Universities - is an important platform that plays a major role in sharing knowledge and experience of maritime universities and professionals in the global market and exchanging ideas.

On April 2020, the 11th session of the International Board of the Association was held, where the results of the BNTU audit were discussed and a positive decision was made.

Earlier, on February 10-11, 2020, anaudit of the Higher Education Institution was conducted by  Capt. Mahmoud Elsayed EI Bawab, a professor at the Arab Academy of Sciences, Technology and Maritime Transport, Deputy Dean of the Institute of Marine Sciences.

As part of the audit,  Capt. Mahmoud Elsayed EI Bawabmet with representatives of the Maritime Transport Agency, inspected the BNTU's material and technical base, the university's legal base, conducted interviews with BNTU administrative and academic staff, students, chairmen of student self-governance service and the alumni of BNTU.

   
  Online WorkshopOn The Topic Of "Writing Europass CV And Cover Letter"  
 

On May 4, 2020, the International Relations Service of the Batumi Navigation Teaching University organized an online workshop for BNTU students, academic and administrative staff on the topic of "Writing Europass CV and Cover Letter".

The workshop was conducted by George Gabedava, Head of the International Relations Service; Assistant-Professor at BNTU.

Within the framework of the workshop, the following topics were discussed:

  • Europass CV structure;
  • The basic requirements and features of the CV of this format;
  • Motivational letter structure and writing technique;
  • Effective communication methods;

Participants were able to compile a CV through practical assignments.

The meeting was conducted by using the online application "Google Meet".

Similar types of workshops will make it easier for students and staff to work on exchange program application documents.

   
  Extraordinary meeting of BSAMI rectors 
 

An online meeting of the rectors of the member universities of BSAMI (Association of Black Sea Universities) was held on April 21 this year regarding the measures and restrictions introduced due to the new Corona Virus (COVID 19);

The meeting was held to assess the learning and teaching processes in the current situation and to discuss the measures to be taken. The BSAMI online meeting was organized by Piri Reis University (PRU) and was conducted using the University's online learning platform (MS Teams). Rector of Batumi Navigation Teaching University, Captain, Professor Parmen Khvedelidze participated in the meeting.

The meeting was chaired and moderated by the BSAMI Chairperson Prof. Dr. Oral Erdoğan, Rector of Piri Reis University and attended by the rectors/deans of the member maritime universities/faculties from 6 Black Sea countries.

It was noted at the meeting that all members of BSAMI will continue their planned work through using university electronic management systems and updated online platforms; Universities do not have significant problems with the implementation of theoretical training courses and e-administration, however, the difficulties related to the implementation of the practical training component remain relevant for everyone.

The participants of the meeting discussed and shared with each other the activities planned for the future and the prospects of cooperation.

  An Remote Meeting On Exchange Programs Was Held. 
 

On April 15, 2020, a remote meeting with the students of Batumi Navigation Teaching University on exchange programs was held.

The meeting was organized by the BNTU International Relations Service.

Students were introduced to the ERASMUS + program, its requirements, advantages and opportunities.

Also, students received information about the institutional exam in English and got acquainted with the structure of the exam test.

The meeting was held using the Zoom app.

   
  International Online Public Lecture 
 

On April 14, 2020, the International Relations Service of Batumi Navigation Teaching University organized an international online public lecture for BNTU students and staff on the topic:„Selected chapters covering different aspects of technical surveying of the ship and ship's maintenance with particular emphasis to STCW'78/'95/'10 Convention ”

The lecture was given by Spiro Ivosevich, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Maritime Sciences. BNTU partner - University of Montenegro

The lecture was conducted using the online platform “Skype Conference”. It was attended by 50 BNTU representatives.

   
 

Online Teaching Methods 

 

Academic and invited staff were introduced to online teaching methods at the Batumi Navigation Teaching University.

The Head of the International Relations Service talked about the opportunities of the platform “ZOOM” and focused on the details needed to provide online teaching.

  • Using the application, lecturers can conduct lectures without leaving home;
  • Live Stream is available simultaneously for 100 students;
  • The platform also has the function of recording lectures;
  • Files can be changed via application;

The e-learning process will start on March 23 at BNTU. The electronic platform will run in test mode from March 16 to 22.

The Batumi Navigation Teaching University moved to anl online learning regime based on the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Coordination Council established by the Prime Minister.

  IAMU Audit at Batumi Navigation Teaching University 
 

On February 10-11, 2020, Professor of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Vice Dean of the Institute of Maritime Studies, Captain Mahmoud Elsayed El Bawab, conducted an audit at the Batumi Navigation Teaching University.

As part of the audit, Captain Mahmoud Elsayed El Bawab met with representatives of the Maritime Transport Agency, checked the BNTU Technical and Material Base, the University's Legislative Base. He also conducted interviews with BNTU administrative / academic staff, students, Chairman of the BNTU Student Self-Government Service and Alumni.

The purpose of the audit is to join BNTU in the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), which was established in November 1999 by 7 universities. As of today, it unites 65 marine educational institutions around the world. IAMU is an important platform that plays a major role in sharing the knowledge and experience and exchanging ideas of maritime universities and industry professionals on the world market.

The event was organized by the BNTU International Relations Service.

   
 

Institutional Exam In English Language

 

On December 7, 2019 students of the Batumi Navigation Teaching University passed an institutional exam to test B2 level competence in English.

The English language exam  included examination of four language competencies: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

The purpose of the exam is to prove language competence and prepare students for exchange programs.

The exam was organized by the International Relations Service.

   
  BNTU Professors' Two-Week Internship At The University Of Montenegro
 

Deputy Rector of Batumi Navigation Teaching University, Professor Gela Gvarishvili, and Professor Ekaterine Gvarishvili visited the University of Montenegro.

Representatives of BNTU got acquainted with the administrative and educational activities of the host university, they also met with students of the educational institution and delivered a public lecture. They completed a two-week internship at the host university.

The visit took place from November 4 to November 15, 2019.

The University of Montenegro is a partner educational institution of the Batumi Navigation Teaching University. Other educational activities are planned within the framework of cooperation.

   
  Lectures ERASMUS+ ICM Staff Mobility of the Professors of Batumi Navigation Teaching University at the International University of Logistics and Transport in Wroclaw
 

The representatives of Batumi Navigation Teaching University are conducting a working visit to Wroclaw, Poland.

Natia Mikeleladze, Head of BNTU Quality Assurance Service and George Gabedava, Head of International Relations Service, held meetings with Prof. Zenon Zamiar – Deputy Rector, Stanislaw Slusarczyk – Dean of the Faculty of Logistics, Andrzej Michaluk – Vice-Dean

of the International University of Logistics and Transport.

The Meeting was held on November 12 and 13, 2019, in Wroclaw (Poland) within the framework of the ERASMUS + Academic Mobility Program.

A fruitful meeting was held with Hubert Lucki, Head of the International Projects Office of the University, who introduced BNTU representatives to current and planned projects and prospects for participating in them.

Also within the framework of the ERASMUS + Academic Mobility program lectures by Professors George Gabedava and Natia Mikeladze at the International University of Logistics and Transport (Wroclaw, Poland) were held on the following topics:

„Transport and Logistics in Georgia - Problems and Prospects ”

"Ship’s Flag - Nationality, Selection Factors and Results"

"Interpersonal Communication, Conflicts and Ways of Solving Them"

AIESEC Georgia’s Information Meeting For BNTU Students And Staff

 

On November 11, 2019, AIESEC Georgia conducted an informational meeting with students and staff of the Batumi Navigation Teaching University. The meeting was organized by BNTU International Relations Service.

  Erasmus + Academic Staff Mobility At The International University Of Transport And Logistics In Wroclaw
 

Professors George Gabedava and Natia Mikeladze of the Batumi Navigation Teaching University are invited to the International University of Transport and Logistics in Wroclaw (Poland) within the framework of the ERASMUS + International Credit Mobility Program from November 9 to November 16 of this year.

Within the framework of the Academic Mobility Program, BNTU professors will deliver several lectures to students and one open lecture for staff. In order to share the experience they will learn about the work of the structural units of the host university.

The Representatives of the Batumi Navigation Teaching University are conducting a first visit to the partner university within the framework of the ERASMUS + International Credit Mobility Program.

   
 

Informational Meeting With Students About Exchange Programs

 

On November 8, 2019 the International Relations Serivce held a meeting with students on exchange programs.  Students of Batumi Navigation Teaching University were informed about exchange programs. The meeting was organized by the International Relations Service in the free space.

George Gabedava, Head of Service introduced the ERASMUS + program, its requirements, strengths and opportunities to the students.

Students also received information about the process of taking an institutional exam in English. Learned about the structure of the exam.

After the meeting the corner of international education was opened in the free space, where students will have the opportunity to study the scholarships offered by universities, organizations and embassies.

   
 

Erasmus+ Contact Seminar In Tbilisi

 

The Erasmus + Contact Seminar was held in Tbilisi. The event was planned for October 30-31, organized by Erasmus + National Office of Georgia.

The seminar was attended by Chancellor of Batumi Navigation Teaching University Lali Khvedelidze and Head of International Relations Service George Gabedava.

The official part of the seminar was opened by TSU Rector Giorgi Sharvashidze, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia Irina Abuladze, EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzeli and Erasmus + Georgia Office Coordinator Lika Glonti.

The purpose of the seminar was to find partners for the upcoming competition. The seminar hosted 57 representatives from 46 universities in 11 European countries; About 100 representatives of 44 Georgian universities met with European colleagues at the seminar.

On the first day of the seminar, representatives of European universities gave general presentations about their educational system and the profile of the university.

The second day of the seminar was dedicated to speed dating, European and Georgian universities had the opportunity to exchange information and discuss new opportunities for cooperation.

Also, all universities had the opportunity to submit their promotional material.

During the seminar, the Head of the International Relations Service of BNTU held meetings with European colleagues and discussed issues related to future cooperation.

The seminar was hosted by Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.

   
  International Exhibition of Education - Tbilisi 2019
 

On October 27 of this year, Mr. George Gabedava, the Head of International Relations Service of the Batumi Navigation Teaching University has participated in the International Exhibition of Education - Tbilisi 2019, which was organized by educational-consulting organization EduGuide.Ge in Tbilisi.

The International Relations Service received individual consultations with representatives of different universities, international organizations and embassies; Received more information on the procedures required for admission to higher education, the terms of application, teaching and living conditions;

  The Information Meeting of DAAD Representative At BNTU
  DAAD representative Ms. Maxi Bornmannheld a meeting at the Batumi Navigation Teaching University.

The representative of German Academic Exchange Office provided students and staff with information on what grants and scholarships DAAD offers to both students and academic / administrative staff in Germany to further their studies or raise qualifications.

The meeting was organized by BNSU International Relations Service.

DAAD unites people and science. Founded in 1925 in Heidelberg by the initiative of the students, today it is one of the most important foundations for international exchange of students and Scientists. Since its establishment, DAAD has financed two million people in Germany and abroad. It should also be noted that DAAD's work goes beyond just scholarship: DAAD promotes the internationalization of German higher education institutions, enhances Germanic and German language as a foreign language, assists developing countries in developing competitive higher education, while also consulting with experts in education, science and development policy.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has been represented in Georgia since 1988. The budget is funded by various federal ministries, primarily the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the EU.

On October 18-20, 2019, Akaki Tsereteli State University hosted the IV International Conference "Modern Interdisciplinarism and Humanitarian Thinking" an Interdisciplinary Study of Identity in Kutaisi.

The conference was attended by Ms. Tamar Diasamidze, Assistant Professor of Batumi Navigation Teaching University. Ms. Tamar made a report on the scientific paper: "The Cultural Nature of Expressive Characteristics of Paralinguistic Mthods".

   
 

International Conference „Tourism, Transport And Logistics“

 

George Gabedava, Assistant Professor of Batumi Navigation Teaching University, participates in the 640th International Conference on Tourism, Transport and Logistics on October 16-17, 2019. BNTU Professor made a report on the topic: „ROLE OF MARITIME SHIPPING TO MEET SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGs)“.

The conference is being organized by the Institute of Research Engineers and Scientists in Zurich, Switzerland.

Participation in the conference was financed by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Adjara within the framework of Higher Education Promotion sub-program.

On October 10-11 of this year, two students from the Faculty of Maritime - Engineering of Batumi Navigation Teaching University: Dimitri Kuznetsov and Temur Bakuridze participated in the international Student Conference “My Profession in 2040 – Challenges of High School Education”.

The conference was organized by the Nikola Vapttsarov Naval Academy in Varna, Bulgaria.

The students made a report on the topic:  "THE BENEFITS OF A TWO-STAGE TURBOCHARGER".

   
   
  Visit of The Rector and Chancellor of BNTU  at the International University Of Transport and Logistics in Warsaw
 

 

On 4-5 October of this year, the rector of BNTU Mr. Parmen Khvedelidze and Chancellor Ms. Lali Khvedelidze were on a working visit to the universitythe International University of Transport and Logistics in Warsaw.

The President of the University, together with the Department of International Relations of the International University of Transport and Logistics in Wroclaw, hosted BNTU representatives. The Rector and the Chancellor of BNTU attended a Reception Ceremony dedicated to the start of the new academic year, within the framework of the visit a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between BNTU and the International University of Transport and Logistics in Worclaw.

Future cooperation plans were also discussed during the meeting. As part of the collaboration, both university students and academic and administrative staff will be able to take advantage of the ERASMUS + ICM program and implement mobility, share teaching-learning and work experience with one another.

   
  Memorandum Of Understanding With The Vienna Institute For Transport And Logistics Management
 

 

The Batumi Navigation Teaching University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Vienna Institute for Transport and Logistics Management.

The purpose of the Memorandum is to exchange students and academic / administrative staff, as well as to conduct joint research projects and short-term programs.

   
 

Visit of JADE University Representative to Batumi Navigation Teaching University

 

On September 27, Batumi Navigation Teaching University hosted a representative of JADE University.

Within the framework of the visit, Mr. Nicolas Nause, a representative of the Department of Maritime and Logistics of JADE University, held a meeting with the BNTU’s Deputy Rector, Chancellor, Head of Quality Assurance Service, Head of International Relations Service and Deans of Faculties. During the meeting the parties shared their experiences and discussed achievements and future plans.

During the visit, they also discussed issues of future cooperation aimed at the mobility of students and academic staff between universities within the framework of the Erasmus + International Credit Mobility (ICM) program.

On September 24, Batumi Navigation Teaching University hosted Captain Tony Bilik, Head of the Department of Maritime Studiesof the University of Zadar (Croatia).

Within the framework of the visit a working meeting was held with the Deputy Rector of Batumi Navigation Teaching University, Chancellor, Head of Quality Assurance Service and Head of International Relations Service.

During the meeting, the sides discussed structural and functional issues of the University, they also focused on current and future projects and educational programs.

Also, at the meeting discussed issues of future cooperation issues aimed at student and academic / administrative staff mobility between universities within the framework of the ERASMUS + International Credit Mobility (ICM) program.

On September 24, Batumi Navigation Teaching University hosted the Dean of the Maritime Faculty of Montenegro University - Mr. Spiro Ivosevic.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss the details of the planned cooperation, within the framework of which students, academic and administrative staff of the Batumi Navigation Teaching University will be able to participate in exchange programs of the University of Montenegro.

Within the framework of the visit a working meeting was held with the Deputy Rector of Batumi Navigation Teaching University, Chancellor, Head of Quality Assurance Service and Head of International Relations Service.

At the meeting, the parties agreed to exchange students, academic / administrative staff and develop joint programs.
