The Automatic Identification System (AIS) course provides essential training on the safe and effective use of AIS equipment for officers in charge of a navigational watch. The course focuses on enhancing maritime safety, security, and environmental protection by developing understanding and practical skills for AIS operation.
After completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Understand the objectives, functions, benefits, and limitations of AIS.
- Apply decision-making processes for safe system usage.
- Use AIS as an additional navigational tool for situational awareness and collision avoidance.
- Send and respond to safety and security-related messages.
- Familiarize themselves with specific AIS equipment on ships prior to sea use.
The course is open to masters, chief mates, deck officers, and pilots.

- Certificate of Competency (COC) or educational diploma.
- Seaman’s Book, Civil Passport, or Identification Card (for near-coastal voyage seafarers).
