High Voltage

The course is suitable for marine engineering officers, electrical or electro-technical officers. The program covers essential education and training in high voltage (HV) installations to meet the knowledge, understanding and proficiency requirements as set out in STCW 1978 as amended Tables A-III/1, A-III/2 and A-III/6 for “electrical, electronic and control systems”.

Upon completion of the course, trainee will be able to  understand  the  HV/LV power systems  including  statutory  regulations,  hazards  associated  with  high  voltage  systems,  be able  to  safely  operate  and  maintain  such  systems, perform  HV switching  operations  on  a wide range  of  marine  and  offshore  power  equipment,  as  well  as carry out  isolation,  fault  diagnosis  and  troubleshooting.

The course consists of 2 Modules. 

Entry standards

For entry to the course the candidate should present:

  • Certificate of Competency or Certificate of Proficiencyor Educational Diploma
  • Seaman’s Book or Passport
  • Seafarer’s Medical Certificate
