Batumi Navigation Teaching University (BNTU), founded in 1999 by deep sea captain Parmen Khvedelidze, is the first private maritime school in Georgia. It continues to enhance the quality of Georgian maritime education and secure a unique position for the country in the international maritime arena.

Today, BNTU is a competitive, high-tech, internationally recognized, well-known higher educational institution that provides quality, international and national employment market-oriented education and creation of new knowledge in the field.

Maritime-Engineering faculty, Business and Logistics faculty, vocational education department and international maritime training center are the main educational units of BNTU, providing training and retraining for students, vocational students, graduates and active seafarers.

Our advantage lies in an infrastructure corresponding to modern standards and the material and technical resources, necessary for the implementation of a high-quality educational process. Highly qualified staff with academic and practical experience are involved in the education process.

Our priority is to create a student-centered environment where each student can realize their potential.

BNTU maintains strong collaborations with local and international institutions, industry organizations, research institutes and ship-owning companies. BNTU has been holding the ISO Quality Management System certificate for 22 years.

History

Batumi Navigation Teaching University, as a maritime educational institution, has been operating in the Georgian educational space since 1999 as "Batumi Maritime College - Seaman School". In 2002, at its premises there was established International Maritime Training Center “Mercury”, which carried out the development of practical skills of students of "Batumi Maritime College - Seaman School" and the training and certification of seafarers on maritime training courses. In 2007, “Batumi Navigation Institute - International Maritime Training Center“ was established and in 2008, it was named “Batumi Navigation Teaching University” (BNTU). From day one, the university is managed by its Founders, Parmen Khvedelidze and Lali Khvedelidze.

Our Legal Status

BNTU is a limited liability entrepreneurial legal entity established under Georgia's "Law on Entrepreneurs." It has been granted the status of a higher educational institution and functions as a training university in accordance with current Georgian legislation. BNTU operates autonomously as a higher educational institution, adhering to the Constitution of Georgia, relevant laws, by-laws, and its charter.

Mission

BNTU's mission is to provide lifelong high-quality education to master’s students/ students/vocational students that develops the knowledge and skills they need to pursue a successful career in the ever-changing local and international market in the field of trade, maritime and logistics.

By implementing academic/vocational/certification high-quality programmes and research projects, enhancing internationalization, student-centered learning, and creating a safe, modern academic environment, BNTU achieves a high level of graduate responsibility, discipline, integrity and leadership.

Based on the mission and vision, taking into account the challenges facing the university, with SWOT analysis and extensive involvement of the university community, the university outlined five strategic goals for its activities for the next seven years, namely:
