Developing Soft Skills in Mariners

On January 23, 2025, academic and invited staff from BNTU participated in a webinar titled "Developing Soft Skills in Mariners," hosted by The Nautical Institute.

The event featured a panel of experts who highlighted the critical importance of soft skills in today's maritime sector. They emphasized that the maritime industry revolves around people, making soft skills vital for fostering effective teamwork. Factors such as crew relationships, management quality, and leadership approaches play a significant role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of vessels. Additionally, these skills greatly influence crew members' decisions about whether to remain in their roles or seek employment elsewhere.

The webinar also examined practical ways to cultivate soft skills in daily interactions, extending beyond formal training programs. These approaches were shown to support safety, enhance job satisfaction, and promote well-being at sea.
